Sheila Plant
Case study: In retirement
Sheila Plant, South Croydon
Client since: 2000
Adviser name: Maureen Pembridge
Why did Sheila decide to take financial advice?
Having previously managed her own finances by conscientiously saving into savings accounts and bonds, Sheila had not felt the need to work with a financial adviser.
However, just as she was coming up to retirement, she met Maureen Pembridge at a seminar about pensions, especially for retiring teachers. As a fellow sports enthusiast, they got on very well, and Sheila decided to ask Maureen for financial advice.
How did Black Swan Capital help?
As a teacher, Sheila received a lump sum of money once she retired. She had no idea what investments would suit her, so after finding out what she wanted to do in retirement, Maureen helped Sheila to invest her pension in a way that suited her.
How has Sheila benefited from the advice?
Sheila feels that she has benefitted hugely in financial terms. She has been able to enjoy her retirement comfortably from the very outset. In fact, she has a higher income now than at the start of her retirement!
Having travelled the world already, she is keen to explore more of the UK. She enjoys barge holidays and will soon be embarking on a cruise around the British Isles.
Sheila says: “I wouldn’t have known what to do with my finances if not for Maureen. She has become a good friend and I feel at home talking to her. She provides me with options for my investments, and I’m able to choose whatever option I feel most comfortable with.”
