Fundraising 2019: Working with 52 Lives
Posted onHere at Black Swan Financial Planning, we’re keen to work with charities to deliver a positive impact. This year, we’ve decided to direct our fundraising efforts to 52 Lives.
This incredible charity aims to change someone’s life every week of the year, with the goal of inspiring people to be kind. People place nominations through the website, making requests for a huge variety of things, which are checked by the charity to ensure their authenticity. It means the requests are diverse, from building a sensory shed for a toddler that’s losing her sight to sending a little girl on holiday with her grandma after the death of her mother.
But they all have one thing in common; fulfilling the requests has a positive impact on lives.
One of the unique things about 52 Lives is that 100% of donations go directly to the person in need, so every penny does count. Over the year we hope to support a range of causes by fundraising for the charity and are thrilled to reveal we’ve already helped to change one life.
Our first donation to 52 Lives
Our first case was for a family seeking to raise £1,800 to help their son Andrew, a young boy who was diagnosed with Late Infantile Batten Disease, a degenerative disease with no known cure. The family wanted to purchase a mobile hoist, allowing Andrew to enjoy more time outdoors. Also, Andrew’s little sister Faith had been affected by the diagnosis and the family hoped to raise enough money to purchase her a new bike.
So, we decided to set a target of raising £200 to buy Faith a bike. Incredibly, we surpassed our target by quite a way; raising £700!
With the donations to fund the hoist for Andrew falling short by £400, we were able to make up the shortfall and ensure the family received the items they needed.
Jamie, who runs the charity, said: “Just to let you know, this lovely bike is on its way to Faith today, along with £50 worth of Halfords voucher so she can choose a helmet, a bell and some accessories. We’ve also today ordered the hoist for Andrew. Thank you so much for helping to make this all happen.”

You can help us raise money for 52 Lives too. On Thursday 25th July at midday we’ll be doing a 25 kilometer walk across London Bridges, starting with Putney Bridge and ending at Tower Bridge. Our goal is to raise £500 and you can find out more here: https://52-lives.charitycheckout.co.uk/pf/black-swan-bridgewalk
