Black Swan team help support local mums and kids at a special Magpie Project event
Posted onWe’ve written before about the fantastic work of The Magpie Project, particularly the great contribution they made in the early lockdown to support mothers with children under the age of five living in temporary or insecure accommodation.
You might remember the charity party we helped to organise last summer!
As it’s just a 20-minute train ride from our offices, we at Black Swan have adopted this great cause as our local charity and try to visit and help out as much as we can.
Earlier this month, the team headed down to spend a morning helping out the project with a very special “clothing shopping” event. Read on to find out more.
Helping local mums “shop” for donated clothes
On Thursday 19 May the Black Swan team headed down to The Magpie Project to support a “clothing shopping” morning.
Our task was to help with redistributing donated clothes (mainly for the under 5s). Our team were each allocated a space or “bar rail” to help the mothers look for clothes and collect the tokens.
It was a really positive and well organised session. All the clothes were “priced” at one token each, and the project gave each mum five tokens to “spend” on great quality donated clothes.
10 mums were booked in for their “shopping” appointment every half an hour from 9 am to 12 noon. There were staff on hand to look after and entertain the children while the mothers had half an hour of valuable time to look for and choose clothes.
Many of the mums are in desperate need of clothing for both themselves and their children, and this is one of the critical ways The Magpie Project supports local parents. It was delightful to see so many happy and grateful mothers and children with their much-needed items of clothing.
Here are some photos of the day!
Jodie seemed to be a magnet for the mothers and spent most of her time holding babies!
In a more technical capacity, the team was also tasked with assembling a large storage unit. Thankfully we managed to complete this, but only when we discarded the instruction sheet!
And here’s Steve with his “chancellor of the exchequer” merchandise!
Head to The Magpie Project to find out more about their fantastic work.
