Find out how your donations are helping a life in need
Posted onWith the help of more than 100,000 people, 52 Lives is a charity that aims to spread kindness and change someone’s life.
Every week of the year – hence the name 52 Lives – the charity shares the story of someone in need of help. In return, supporters donate what they can and what the person needs, helping to change that person’s life.
Recently, 52 Lives shared their 259th story: that of a 13-year-old boy under assessment by child mental health services. The boy had been seriously struggling with his mental health, and it is suspected that he was abused at a young age.
The charity reported that his room was in a bad state – the walls were damaged and peeling, the carpet was worn through, and the room was completely bare, other than a mattress on the floor.
Jaime from 52 Lives added: “He spends a lot of time in his room and has periods of anger, which is how his walls became damaged last year. His social worker said living in this state is making his mental health even worse, and he has promised he would look after his room if given another chance.
“This young boy has been through a lot and we would love to show him some kindness. With your help, we’d like to give him a new bedroom, filled with furniture, toys and books.”
Well, as a result of the money raised through our online quiz, we’ve been able to help Jaime and her team to support this young man.
When we spoke to Jaime about the charity’s ‘#259 life’, she told us: “The young boy we were helping…we’re fixing his room at the moment but also wanted to buy him a computer and some books. He’s so isolated and just has absolutely nothing in his room.”
So, we were delighted to step in and help. We donated the funds raised from everyone’s trivia efforts and this will help to buy this young man the technology he needs.
Jaime adds: “Thanks so much! We’ll get the computer ordered for him this week, along with some software to go with it. I asked his mum, and she said a computer would be best as he’ll need to use it for schoolwork etc. as well. He’s going to be thrilled!”
Support a fantastic cause
Every week, 52 Lives helps to change someone’s life. Jaime and her team choose someone in need of help, share their story on the charity’s website and social media, and request what that person needs.
Kind supporters then spread the word and offer help if they can, enabling 52 Lives to change that person’s life – and inspire more kindness in others.
Over the years the charity has helped with a huge variety of things…from buying teeth for a man in Alabama; building a sensory shed for a toddler in South London who was losing her sight; making video messages for a young boy being bullied; helping a homeless mother and son into a flat; and sending a little girl and her grandma on a holiday after the death of her mother.
52 Lives also runs free Kindness Workshops in primary schools all over the country.
One of the unique things about 52 Lives is that 100% of all donations go to the person they are helping. Head to the 52 Lives website to find out more about their amazing work and to make a donation.
